The Coles Mobile Wallet is the smart way to pay, that’s quick, secure and simple to use. The new Coles Mobile Wallet consists of a Coles Pay Tag that lets you pay with your phone and the Coles Credit Card App that keeps track of your purchases for your convenience and control.

The Coles Credit Card App is our new mobile banking and loyalty app, designed for iPhone and Android devices. It allows you to manage your Coles Credit Card account 24 hours a day with access to your account balance, available credit and transaction history. It also lets you view your flybuys account points balance and access and activate a great range of exclusive flybuys offers. Plus you can use the app to request your Coles Pay Tag, as well as turn it on and off to give you an additional layer of security.

 

The Coles Pay Tag

A Coles Pay Tag is a mini credit card sticker and flybuys barcode in one, which you stick to the back of your mobile phone. By leveraging the same functionality as PayPass on your Coles Mastercard, the Coles Pay Tag enables you to make quick and easy payments on your mobile phone, everywhere you see the Mastercard PayPass symbol. It also enables you to collect flybuys points at participating flybuys retail partners by scanning the barcode on your Coles Pay Tag.

To request a Coles Pay Tag you need to be the primary Coles Mastercard cardholder, and have an active Coles Mastercard. You also need to ensure your account is up to date.

Where can I use the Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

You can use the Coles Pay Tag everywhere you see the Mastercard PayPass logo. You can also collect flybuys points at participating retail partners, by scanning the barcode on the Coles Pay Tag before you pay.

The Coles Pay Tag offers you the same protection against fraud and security as your Coles Mastercard – thanks to Mastercard’s Zero Liability and the Falcon® fraud technology. You’ll also need to use a PIN for all transactions of $100 or over, and the in-built chip provides protection against the chance of your personal details being copied. As an additional layer of security, you can also turn the Coles Pay Tag on and off using the Coles Credit Card App.

 

Getting a Coles Pay Tag

The easiest way to request a Coles Pay Tag is through the Coles Credit Card App – simply download the app via the App Store for iPhone devices or via Google Play for Android devices and follow the prompts. Alternatively, if you don’t have a smart phone you can submit a request for a Coles Pay Tag here.

If you request a Coles Pay Tag via the Coles Credit Card App, you will be notified of your outcome immediately.

If you request a Coles Pay Tag via the Coles Mastercard website, you will be notified within 7 business days.

If you don’t have a smart phone, you can submit a request for a Coles Pay Tag here.

Your request for a Coles Pay Tag will not be accepted if for example:

  • You are not the primary cardholder
  • You do not have an active primary Coles Mastercard
  • Your Coles Mastercard account is not up to date

How long will it take for my Coles Pay Tag to arrive? Navigation Show below Hide below

Your Coles Pay Tag should arrive within 10 business days and will be sent to your registered Coles Mastercard account address. 
Should you need to change your registered address, please do so via the Coles Credit Card Online Service Centre.

The Coles Pay Tag is free.

Transactions made using your Coles Pay Tag will attract the same fees and charges that normally apply to your Coles Mastercard account.

Setting up a Coles Pay Tag

1. SNAP: Carefully peel the card from the welcome letter and snap your Coles Pay Tag out of the plastic card

2. PEEL: Peel off the protective backing

3. STICK: Place your Coles Pay Tag at the bottom of the back of your mobile phone and press firmly

Attach your Coles Pay Tag on the back of your mobile phone, near the bottom.

Will my mobile phone be damaged by sticking my Coles Pay Tag to it? Navigation Show below Hide below

Your Coles Pay Tag uses strong adhesive but it is unlikely that your mobile phone will be damaged if it’s attached by following the instructions. Please take care placing on a patterned or delicate cover.

Can I put my Coles Pay Tag under my mobile phone cover? Navigation Show below Hide below

We recommend attaching your Coles Pay Tag externally, over your mobile phone cover to ensure it is detected and to make it easier for you to scan your flybuys.

How many pay tags can be placed on my mobile phone? Navigation Show below Hide below

You should only have one Pay Tag attached to your phone.

How do I activate my Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

Once you receive your Coles Pay Tag, please call 1300 306 397 and quote “Activate Pay Tag” at the voice prompt.

You will need your Coles Pay Tag number to do this. You can locate this number in the letter you received with your Coles Pay Tag. If you don’t have this letter, a customer service agent will be able to help you.

If you don’t have the 16 digit Coles Pay Tag number, please call 1300 306 397 and ask to speak to a customer service agent.

How do I set a PIN on my Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

You’ll need to set your PIN at the time of activating your Coles Pay Tag. Once activation is complete, stay on the line and follow the prompts to select your PIN.

You will need to use a PIN for all purchases over $100.

To choose or change your PIN for your Coles Pay Tag, please call 1300 306 397 and quote “Select PIN for Pay Tag” at the voice prompt.

1. Look for the Mastercard PayPass symbol

2. Scan the flybuys barcode on your Coles Pay Tag to collect your flybuys points at participating retailers

3. Hold your Coles Pay Tag over the edge of the terminal display

4. Wait for the green light to confirm payment

  • Make sure the Coles Pay Tag is placed towards the bottom of your mobile phone
  • Hold the Coles Pay Tag for a few seconds over the corners of the terminal screen and not directly over the middle - do not tap quickly
  • Ensure the Coles Pay Tag is set to ON in the Coles Credit Card App
  • Ensure the inbuilt NFC is turned off (Android only) 
  • Ensure your account is up to date

Terminals can differ between stores. We find the best place to hold your Coles Pay Tag is over the edges of the terminal. If the first try does not work, we suggest you try placing it over another edge or corner of the terminal as the strength of the reader can differ between terminals.

If you have lost your Coles Pay Tag or it has been stolen, please report it immediately by calling 1300 306 397.

Reporting it will not block your Coles Mastercard, so you will still be able to use your Coles Mastercard.

Cancellation of your Coles Mastercard will not impact your Coles Pay Tag, so you will still be able to use your Coles Pay Tag.

If you have lost your Coles Mastercard card or it has been stolen, please report it immediately by calling 1300 306 397. We’ll then cancel your Coles Mastercard and organise a replacement.

Yes, you will still collect flybuys points by using your Coles Pay Tag - the same earn rate as your Coles Mastercard will apply.

Can I use my Coles Pay Tag overseas? Navigation Show below Hide below

Yes, you can use your Coles Pay Tag overseas, anywhere you see the Mastercard PayPass symbol, however it depends on the individual country contactless limits but typically transactions under AUD $100 will be accepted, and those over AUD $100 will need a PIN. We recommend you follow the terminal prompts.

If Fraud identifies an issue with a transaction as part of their monitoring, will they block my Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

The Coles Pay Tag offers you the same security and protection against fraud as your Coles Mastercard. If any suspicious activity is detected by the Fraud Prevention team, you will be notified and it may be cancelled and replaced with a new Coles Pay Tag.

How will my Coles Pay Tag transactions be displayed on the Coles Credit Card Online Service Centre? Navigation Show below Hide below

Your Coles Pay Tag transactions will be displayed in your statements which you can access in the Online Service Centre, and can be identified by the last 4 digits of your Coles Pay Tag number.

How will my Coles Pay Tag transactions be displayed in the Coles Credit Card App?

Your Coles Pay Tag transactions will be displayed in the Coles Credit Card App in the Transactions section – you will be able to identify them based on the Coles Pay Tag symbol next to each associated transaction.

Your Coles Pay Tag will expire 4 years from when you first received it. You will be notified when your Coles Pay Tag is about to expire.

Is there a daily purchase limit on my Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

As your Coles Pay Tag is linked to your Coles Mastercard account, the daily purchase limit on your Coles Pay Tag will be the same as the daily purchase limit on your account.

Can I remove and reattach my Coles Pay Tag? Navigation Show below Hide below

If you change phones for instance, please carefully peel your Coles Pay Tag off your current mobile phone and immediately re-stick it to your new mobile phone. The adhesive is strong enough for it to be reattached, so you won’t need to order a new one every time you get a new mobile phone. Should it not securely reattach, please call Customer Care on 1300 306 397 to order a replacement.

Coles Financial Services is very interested in the possibilities of 'Host Card Emulation' (HCE) and ‘Near Field Communication’ (NFC) and continue to look at emerging payment technologies to identify ways of improving our customers’ mobile experiences. In fact Coles Financial Services were one of the first to trial NFC technology in a pilot on 60 handsets in January 2013. At this stage NFC is still developing in Australia and at the current time some services (such as HCE) are not available on all phones. In developing the Coles Mobile Wallet, we wanted to use a service that would be available universally across the Android and iOS platforms and selected the Coles Pay Tag as our standard mobile 'tap and pay' payment mechanism. We will be continuing to watch this space and also exploring NFC as part of our User Research for the future of the Coles Mobile Wallet.

Quick view allows you to view your available credit and your flybuys points balance without having to enter your Access Code. You can set up this preference during registration, or change it anytime in Settings.

What key Coles Mastercard account information can I find in the app? Navigation Show below Hide below

Current balance and available credit

  • Your available cash limit may differ from your available credit limit.
  • Your available credit will reflect any pending transactions.

Pending and recent transactions

  • Pending transactions are those currently being processed.
  • The pending transaction description will include the merchant name when processed.
  • Pending transactions can take up to 10 days to be processed (e.g. hotel deposits and overseas transactions).
  • Recent transaction dates refer to when your transactions were processed.
  • The amounts shown may vary from your printed statement due to transaction processing delays. Please refer to your statement for the exact amounts.

Account summary

  • Your statement closing balance and the associated minimum monthly payment (which on your Coles Mastercard account is 2.222% of the total outstanding balance, or $10, whichever is greater) but excluding any amount immediately payable)
  • Any amounts due immediately for being overdue or over limit.
  • Please ensure you allow the appropriate time for your payment to be received.

Registering is easy and only takes about 5 minutes. 

If you are a new customer, please make sure you have your Coles Mastercard and the security password on your account (which you created during your application). If you do not know the security password on your account, please call 1300 306 397.

Your flybuys number will be prepopulated based on the flybuys membership linked to your Coles Mastercard account. In addition to this membership number, you will need your flybuys password. Using the Coles Credit Card App

You can turn your Coles Pay Tag on and off in the Coles Credit Card App by going into Settings and turning the Pay Tag toggle ‘OFF’.

Your Coles Pay Tag transactions will be displayed in the Coles Credit Card App in the Transactions section – you will be able to identify them based on the Coles Pay Tag symbol next to each associated transaction.

If you do not remember your Access Code, you just need to follow the prompts upon entering an incorrect one. After three invalid attempts, you’ll be prompted to re-register for the app with your username and password and reset your Access Code.

How can I deregister the Coles Credit Card App? Navigation Show below Hide below

You can deregister the app by going into ‘settings’ and click on the button ‘deregister this device’.

By deregistering the App, you are essentially logging the app out. To delete the app altogether, you must delete it from your device.

The app will deregister from any device after 45 days of inactivity.

Whilst both channels allow you to manage your Coles Mastercard account 24 hours a day, the Coles Credit Card App is only designed to provide you with a snapshot of your key account information. If you have lost your mobile phone and your Coles Pay Tag or it has been stolen, please report it immediately by calling 1300 306 397. We’ll then cancel your Coles Pay Tag and organise a replacement. 

Cancellation of your Coles Pay Tag will not impact your Coles Mastercard, so you will still be able to use it.

The Coles Credit Card App is protected with a four-digit Access Code chosen by you during the registration process. You should never disclose your access code to anyone. As a security measure, if the Access Code to the app is entered incorrectly 3 times the device will be de-registered. The app will also deregister from any mobile device after 45 days of inactivity.

We also recommend you use the Passcode Lock (iPhone) or Screen Lock (Android and Windows) feature on your phone – and don’t forget to call your mobile phone operator and let them know you’ve lost your mobile phone.
